Questions for the Yota guys out there
I'm looking for a better front suspension set up for my Ex. to do a 'road race' style static drop. Oginialy wanted to do a MustangII clip swap (but good luck getting your hands on one of them for less than fortune) then I heard that the '85-'95 Toyota front suspension has the same geometry but with better travel (not to mention that you can pick one up with a good frame and the body rotted off of it for next to nothing)
So my questions are; 1 Are those 5 or 6 lug? ('cause yota 5-lugs are supposed to be the same pattern as mine) 2 What is the wheel track on the yota? 3 What is the distance between the rails @ the firewall? 4 What is the availability of drop spindles/springs?

aren't the front springs torsion bars?,if so it'd be drop keys not springs right?
never owned a toyo, so if im wrong.... i've also heard about flipping balljoints, not sure whats involved but it seems to me a balljoint that is used to being compressed wont like being pulled apart (and vice versa)... S10's are coil sprung i know that much and drop parts are dirt cheap (relative to imports) |

Read this months Street Trucks mag (it has a red 'noma on the cover) 'Suspension School Lower Learning' article and you'll learn alot about suspension geometry and that just becuase it's lower doesn't mean it's going to handle better.

hahaha yeah I read that article, Max is the bomb. he was the first guy I ever saw use a cantilever shock setup!
I like the idea better of using a yota front clip but sticking with a mustang one would be sweet too. And you can find stangs laying around guys don't want for cheap. Usually the V6 ones with rotten bodies but the front frame sections are more than salvageable. They are out there.

Oh, I haven't totally ruled out the MII, I'm just always looking for options. Besides alot of people dont realize that the pinto was built on the same frame so you can still pick them up for dirt cheap (accept there just as hard to find).
My thinking is that the yota should aleady be set up with larger disc brakes, the right bolt pattern and spring rate. I'm not lazy, I'm just a cheap-a$$ bastard.

If you are going static I would say M2. There's lots of coilover setups available for those.
Both will be 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. M2 you can run a rack and pinion easily as well. Toyota has nicer geometry for air ride, but they are torsion bar so if you are keeping it static you will need to set up coilovers or something somehow.

Thanx guys, I have alot of time to think about it. It's going to be awhile now before I can do anything about it anyway due to my current $ situation and that I'll be working 60-70hrs a week until Canada Day, not to mention I still have to weld up my passenger side. Hopfully by then I'll come across a cheap MII or pinto. But knowing me, once I'm ready to do the front end, if I dont have a MII set-up sitting in my garage, I'll go to the local scrap yard and pick up a yota.
Plus with the yota, I have the option of bagging it later if I ever decide to do so.
