The one that Ford never built

Well, I finaly got it to the point that it's worth showing what I've been doing in my garage for the past 3 months. I've always wanted to do this to something ever since I was a kid and seen a Pinto wagon done like this (trust me the pinto would have been easier)

Here is my original sketch of my plans

the design is constantly changing 'on the fly' but is still the same general idea.

The before

The now, exterior

Yes it was green from the factory.

It is a complete 2-door conversion with the door and B-piller off of a 2-door Explorer Sport, along with the upper porsion of the Quarter panel. I used the skin and intrusion beem off my old rear door to fill in the bottom. Than filled the windows and shaved the door handles.

I'm a long way from being finished, I still have to do the same to the passenger side, finish shaving the roof rack, weld on some new rockers. Not to mention figure out what I'm going to do with the rear hatch (I'm putting different tails in and hate it when people do that and leave that ugly notch in it from the factory ones)

The front clip, I'm thinking of doing a more modernized version of the first gen. Ranger front clip.

But my ideas keep changing as I'm going along, so who knows at this point, what it's going to look like in the end.

or maybe these

Both of which running vertical rather than horizontal. Maybe not your style, but I think it suits the idea of the truck.

Thanks, and the tails I have on order are very simular to the ones on that '50 Ford that artsar posted only LED and a lttle more rounded (more the shape of a Ford emblem)

I have about 90hrs into it so far. It would in paint by now if it was a Blazer, but you see them done like this all the time. The Explorer will take 3X longer so you have to be crazy to take one of them on (my sanity is still up for debate)

Hey man that is going to look really cool! Its tricky to see it still with the outlines of the old glass still there in like primer. Its going to look killer when its all block sanded and 1 color!
you should primer the whole secton to get the full effect
can't wait to see more!

Ya, I helped a friend do this to his Blazer about 12 or 13yrs ago (a sky blue mettalic one with a ZR1-350 and a 4/5 drop) we just welded up the windows and made a panel covered in headliner material to fill the inside. He took it to the Truck Nats. that year, some guy offered him an insane amount of money for it, so he sold it, nobodies ever seen it since. There used to be about half a dozen or so Jimmy/Blazers around, that's one reason why I've decided to do it to an Explorer, that I know of, nobody has ever done an Ex panel.

The 2-door Ex's are too short of a wheel base to begin with (they look even sorter when you fill in the glass) and the front doors on the 4-doors have a curve on the back edge that wouldn't look right if I just welded the rear doors shut, so that's why I have done the extra work in order to get the look I want.
