Well I've had this thing in the shop for a month or more now, but finally getting enough parts to get some real work done on it so I figured I would start a thread. I dont have any new pics from the last week or so as i cant find my camera charger but I'll start with what I've got.
This is pretty much how the car came in. Its a body off resto. The customer is going to take it back to finish the body once I'm done with the frame. Body will be coming off for final welding, blast and powder the chassis once the 4 link is set up. Stripped front suspension ![]() Built Upper Cups: ![]() Mocking up with ART Arms, and McGauphys 2" Drop spindles and disc brake conversion: ![]() Should lay engine crossmember: ![]() Thats pretty much all i have for pics right now. The SD 4 link showed up this week, and i built all the 4 link mounts last night so I'll be working on that this weekend. Plans for the car also include a steering box upgrade, front and rear disc conversion. Its going to be on old school 14" cragars and factory paint. So it will essentially look like a mild custom resto, but sitting in the weeds. Parrallel 4 link, panhard bar and RCD Classics Bilstein shocks custom valved for air ride at all 4 corners.

Were the front suspensions in these cars always independent like this? The last time I looked at one of these under the knife was about 7 years ago and it was in a past issue of hotrod magazine so forgive me. I think they were swapping it for a mustang or s10 front clip? Or maybe that was just for geometry?

Yeah the cars were IFS, trucks were solid axle I believe. People switch the clips for lots of reasons, one of the biggest issues on these cars is that the factory steering sucks. The rack and pinion conversion kits available arent that great so lots of guys switch to a custom IFS to correct the geometry when using a rack. On this car the customer opted to go with an updated steering box and column upgrades.
The front clips are also really ugly. I'm going to be cleaning this one up a little. Couple more pics: ![]() Front link mounts tacked in place (reinforced the frame first) ![]() Axle link mounts I now have the panhard bar in place, and the outer notch plates tacked in, and all the bag mount parts cut. This weekend we'll be pulling the body off so i can finish up the rear.

Cool!
I thought i remembered there being a reason for them swapping out the front clips. Can't wait to see more pics of this build!

The car will likely lay engine crossmember. However I have to maintain the backseat which means I have to keep the tunnel to a minimum. Its not built to lay in the back but will sit low.
It is going the factory 2 tone with white and the color you se eon the firewall. I actually think its the same as Prudens car was.

Header kit and steering u joints are en route from summit, and just ordered all the shocks from RCD Classics. The rears are custom valved remote reservoir Bilsteins that will have some interesting mounting. So thats the next thing on the list.
