Getting Semi Rims Milled?

So I found a set of 24" Alcoas I am thinking of getting, but they are still set up for a transport truck tire (24.5") and I want to get them milled down to fit a normal low pro tire. I know tennessee wheel and tire in the states does it, but anyone know of someone in the Toronto area?

Also what is all involved. I am guessing taking a 1/4" all around the rim off and milling the inner lip, but I am not entirely sure. Any ideas?

I'd recommend taking one to a machine shop and asking. If they don't have a big enough lathe they may know someone who does, or be able to point you in the right direction.

the .5" size rims have a different shape to the bead , on the inside , if you compare any other rim that isnt a half size you see what i mean , this is where they will require the "shave down". ill see if i can get a pic or two for ya.
but basically the half sizes have a tapered bead , where the standard sizes are almost 90 deg square.

Yea a picture would be great. The guys on dually scene told me to just buy some from the states. Easy enough if you have 4500 bucks or can find them and want to travel to get them.

oh ok. Thats what I thought you meant. So in other words you just need to get that "tapered" part milled flat to a "square". Thanks fo the help. I don't see why any local machine shop with the right lathe can't do this.

Thanks again for the pics. learn something new every day

would that weaken the strength of the rim where the bead puts pressure or would it be okay?

They get milled down all the time for Duallys. It probably does weaken it but then again they are used to hauling a big rig plus several tonnes of load. If I use them its just going to be used to move a truck. so I doubt the milling ruins it that much.

On a side note. Anyone know where I can get this done? I am hoping somewhere in the southern ontario area. I know of a few machine shops, but maybe someone knows of a place that does this type of work more often.

Being that big rig axles are rated for usualy up to 22,000lbs they should have more then ample thickness of material there.

This guy did it with no aparent problems. He doesnt haul with it but does drag race it

Yes and he had it done from a friend that only did it as a favor so they don't want to do it again. With all the dually projects coming up I want to find someone local that can do it cheap and quick
