Air bag/immobilizer removal could mean $5,000-fine

For those of you who have billet/race wheels in Manitoba... (copied from WinnipegHeights)

The Manitoba government introduced a new law Wednesday that will impose fines of up to $5,000 for removing air bags from vehicles and for disabling or tampering with immobilizers.

Transportation Minister Steve Ashton introduced the proposed changes, contained in the Highway Traffic Amendment Act, Wednesday afternoon just prior to question period.

When the bill passes — as it is sure to do with a majority government — it will create a new summary offence for tampering with immobilizers and air bags.

The bill allows mechanics to work on immobilizers, but only if they reconnect them once the repair is done.

It also allows people to remove air bags from vehicles if they're being scrapped or recycled and to get permission from Transport Canada to install a manual cut-off switch for air bags.

The bill will come into effect the day it passes, if and when that happens.

well thats stupid, the point of an air bag is to save you, if YOU decide you'd rather want bling then your teeth then its your choice. I don't see why they would care that much. We just need to impose a fault system where if you smash your teeth out or something, you won't receive medical coverage for it. Something like that. ORRR... move to ontario.

Because in our great country they love to fuck with people who love building cars ,trucks and bikes. Instead of solving the debt and unemployment because it's way to easy to make stupid laws.

Save the environement and save this and save that we know what's better for the people .
That's what the great thinkers of our governement does so they can waste our money for other thing.
What a waste of money again and time .

Like here in Quebec we have laws for everything it is so strict you would not beleive it.Soon we will have one law to only use one piece of toilet paper when you take dump to save a tree.

That's why many great rod and bike shop move in the Usa they so dont understand that custom shop make run the economy too.
There is 7 hotrod shop who build frame and body that they sell mostly outside of the country because here they wont be able to have deuce without fenders it's not safe .

We should get involve more with sema and do some lobbying .
