Here's my story...
I was driving down north main towards the shoppers drug mart when a goldish color ghost car threw on the cherries, I KNOW for a fact I wasn't speeding or hitting switches so I shrugged it off and pulled into the esso gas station (next to the shoppers in north main) this was at 4:15pm Friday, he followed me into the lot and flagged me into the parking stalls. The cop originally pulled me over (according to what he said) for my clear license plate covers (which he 'seized' and made me sign the summons stating he took them) I bought them for the chrome plate frames that come in the package (which he did put back on). He then asked me if I had adjustable air suspension, I told him yes and he asked me to lay it out. Then he asked me to turn the front wheels left/right and noticed that my tires were 'rubbing' the inner fenders at full drop (no shit). After the inspection was all said and done he mentioned that in the event of a 'catastrophic' suspension failure you need to be able to turn, I blatantly asked him why is that, because if that happened I would pull to the side of the road and put hazards on. He said it is a safety concern... I did also get dinged for my VIN not being riveted to the dash (yes I replaced the dash and forgot to do it, even tho the numbers match the frame, motor & vehicle), and for my battery box tie down, I already knew about that. Also some minor other things like my shift indicator cable is broken (stuck on 'L' when in park) and I have a burnt out drivers side brake light. In fact the guy didn't even mention the lack of bump stops (nothing on the inspection report) or the fact that my wheels SLIGHTLY graze the side of my front shock absorbers at full turn. I don't have the paperwork on me, it's at home but the constables last name was "WARD" or something along those lines. I'll call you later tonight Joel to confirm the guys name and badge number.

on a side note, i got pulled over on sunday, and all the cop wanted to do was check out the truck. A undercover suburban even stopped and wanted to see it too. The cop in the undercover suburban just wanted to see it hop, and sure as shit, they let me go nuts on the switches right in front of them, followed by a "have a great night"
Why the fuck can't they all be like that. |

Was it the same dude that pulled me over last year and towed my truck?

You changed the VIN on your dash yourself, Alex? I'm pretty sure only MPI is allowed to do this, no? I was told by a pretty reputable source that this is highly illegal unless performed by MPI/whoever is the authority in whatever province.

I got a dash from a wrecker, and took the VIN off the damaged one placed it on the new dash but forgot to get it riveted down. Anyone can get it riveted as long as the numbers match the motor, & frame (apparently there are VIN markings somewhere on both as well). At least that is what the cop said.... I have also heard that only MPI accredited places can do it.... I dunno who to believe...

I'm interested to see how this pans out. Honestly I have zero issue with them doing these inspections and keeping the turds off the road. But they should be inspected at a standardized ride height. As long as you can turn lock to lock with your wheels untucked, there should be no issue.
Alex you are going to want to modify your steering stops so no moving parts contact each other (rim on shocks)

At ride height nothing comes in contact with the fenders at all (untucked that is), I didn't know they aren't supposed to ask you to drop the truck. I dont really have a problem putting in bump stops as those are easy to do.

The problem is they dont know what they are doing. There is nothing in the HTA about what height the scrub line and steering laws should be evaluated at, so they are doing it at a 'worst case' scenario, even though there is nothing in writing saying thats where it should be inspected.

i cracked a rim sunday on a pot hole. The crack is about a foot long and now theres a flat spot on the rim, cannot be fixed.
Anyways, my rims are apparently on national back order. WTF? These rims have been around so damn long, how is that even possible.. lol So im probably out on pictures till i can find a rim. I think I liked it better when it never left the garage.. Fuck. |
