Back-ups or no back-ups

Has anyone ever been haseled for not haveing Back-up lights on there ride?
I've just ordered a set of LED Tails with no Back-up lights and can't think of a way to add some without it looking hoakey and just about every truck I've seen with tail mods have none.
"Phantom III" Red 40 diode LED stop/turn/tail light w/chrome plastic rim

I s'pose since the tails I'm getting are availible in a B/U and do closely resemble a Ford emblem, I could french one into the centre of my gate, tint in blue and write 'Ford' on it LOL

But I seen somewhere that you can buy licence plate frames with LED B/Us built in.

I'm kind of up in the air about either frenching a light bar in to gate or going with this
Click the image to open in full size.
But I'd have to paint it 'THERE WILL BE NO CHROME ON MY TRUCK'

Licence plate bolts

Get the bolts with LED's in em... get them in white, hook em up to the reverse lights... You gotta bolt your plate on, Technically keeps you legal, and being only hooked up to your reverse switch, You dont gotta see em when there not on...

BTW, I know this sounds dumb, as alot of the mods (ie bagging, roll pans, tint blablabla...) are illeagel anyways, keep in mind, If your lights are not DOT stamped, technically they are illeagel.... Only way to get around it is to find lights like that, that are DOT stamped... I know there around, they just cost a lil more....

do everything that keeps it within the parameters of being legal to cut down on the hassle for you and everyone else. might as well do it now instead of when they ticket you to fix it

The tails I'm getting are aftermarket replacments for a Big Rig, so nobody would be willing to sell them unless they are DOT approved, They are designed to be surface mounted but I'll french them in so thay look alot better (& they retail at $39.95ea. cdn). Being that I have a CDL, if I get pulled over I wont get off as easily as sombody with their class G so I'm trying to do something wild with my EX while staying within the law. I really wanted to go with these

but they're not DOT approved and are used purly as accent lighting.

I only had one bad experience with my El Camino, and the reverse lights have been shaved since `97. When I first put it on the road it wouldn`t pass safety, so i installed a back up beeper off a big rig, and the shop that was doing the safety was satisfied. It only took a couple of days for me to get annoyed of the beeper and disconnected it.

I've got my tails and my B/Us now

just have to figure out if I'm going to use the B/U as a licence plate frame or take it apart and french just the lights into the rear bumper/roll pan
